Not only an amusing toy, the kaleidoscope provides another perspective on the world, refracting, reducing, and distorting reality. When Berlin-based fashion photographer Boris Draschoff set out to explore the idea in in 2010, the plan was for a short-term art project—one that spawned numerous paintings and illustrations, eventually developing into KUBISTIKA. Fascinated by the way a kaleidoscope cuts to the quick, and holding to the original Greek 'kalos' and 'eidos', or ‘to see beautiful forms’, Draschoff creates extraordinary, crystallised worlds, recognisable as reality but something else entirely.
